why would you want to live in a whale's vagina? Also, everyone knows that Michigan is the great beer state.

"Paging Burglar to Beerlopnik desk, Burglar, please respond."

Yes, Michigan has some OUTSTANDING brews. No argument whatsoever. For my personal tastes, and living in the Southwestern US for 85% of my life, the weather is a factor (the other 15% was in Chicago, so I have an idea about the weather in Michigan). And I love a lot of SoCal brews. A lot. A LOT.

They missed my friend's brewery - Firefly Hollow Brewing in Bristol, CT.

There are a number of breweries missed here. But it seems to cover an awful lot of them.

Oregon has some great breweries, especially in the Bend area. They just opened like 5 more in the past year or so.

No argument. Oregon is never out of the top 5. And that's saying something.

(personal top 5: CA, OR, CO, MI, oh god... so many other choices...)

And yet all the hipsters around portland choose to drink PBR over what we have available. Not because its cheap either but because they want to be edgy, some bars even take advantage of that and I've seen PBR cost more than stuff from Deschutes and other Oregon breweries.

Not sure what the criteria was for the map (nor how old it is), but it's missing the two craft breweries that recently opened in northwest LA. One of which is the first brewery in Shreveport, LA since prohibition that a friend of mine co-founded.

I noticed a few that were missing. My guess is it was somewhat crowdsourced. But it's still an impressive endeavor.

When I was in Wales in 2003 I was amazed to see people drinking bottles of Budweiser for £5 when local Welsh brews were on special for less than £1. No accounting for taste, no matter where you are.

If you have the ability to print something of that size, more power to you. Not arguing that it isn't pricey. =)

Cheers!

pssst, I think most German beer is pisswater, so there. But don't tell anybody, because people go apeshit when you say anything bad about German beer.

I'm really not a fan of German-style beer, either. I'm more fond of the hop-forward beers of the British Isles than the maltier Continental beers. Also, this may be surprising coming from a self-professed "beer guy," but I'm not at all a fan of wheatbeers.

I have a feeling that if you take a ratio of population:brewery density you'll see that the midwest (WI & MI especially) have the highest, and often some of the best tasting crafts.

Boundary Bay has to be my favorite brewery. Also the largest brewpub in the nation. If you're ever up near Bellingham, WA, definitely check it out.

Kinja'd!!! Gamecat235 > Stupidru
01/13/2014 at 16:28

Kinja'd!!!0

Potentially. Although you may get some very weird areas with that ratio (Hawaii and Alaska, and possibly Utah could throw some weird curveballs in there, and then there is the definition of a brewery, and the way that you would rank a macro in comparison to a micro or even a nanobrewery). Now I'm curious as to what population ratios have already been done in regard to beer production.

"American beer is like making love in a canoe," goes the joke up here, "fucking close to water".

(However, some microbreweries have been making great strides of late, it must be said)

Some? If by "some" you mean hundreds , then yes. =P

Even some of the macro brewers are trying to ride the wave (and kind of getting it wrong, but hey, they get like a C for effort!). It's a great time to be a beer fan living in the US.

Always room for one more, bud.

It was hard not to make fun of people that don't live here when all we had was nice weather, but now that we're the craft brew capitol of the world too, it's damn near impossible. Now if we could just be good at sports...

Also, anyone know where I can buy a poster of this?
